The origin of a thousand stories and the site of numerous battles, Olavinlinna Castle is one of the best-known sights in Finland.<\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n

Olavinlinna was founded in 1475 by a Danish knight called Erik Axelsson Tott, who\u00a0 at the time served as the governor of Vyborg Castle.\u00a0 Building site for the castle was chosen from the point of view of defence: steep, rocky islet emerges from a strong stream at the meeting point of two waterways. It was difficult for the enemy to approach the castle and the waterways could be used to transport building material to the islet.

Riihisaari \u2013 Savonlinna’s Museum<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Riihisaari is a charming meeting point and exhibition site next to Olavinlinna castle, in the heart of Old Savonlinna. Riihisaari hosts the\u00a0Savonlinna Museum\u00a0<\/strong>and exhibitions by\u00a0Saimaa Nature Centre<\/strong> as well as information on Lake Saimaa\u2019s cultural and natural history. Be sure to visit our museum shop as well! Thanks to a wide variety of non-permanent exhibitions and public events, we provide new things for our customers to see and do throughout the year. Riihisaari also provides Savonlinna region tourist and hiking information services!

Finnish Forest Museum Lusto<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Finnish Forest Museum Lusto offers surprising insights and different perspectives of forests for all ages. The national museum responsible for forest culture is located in Punkaharju, in the midst of the most beautiful landscape of ridges and lakes in Eastern Finland. Museum is 30 km from our hotel. You can go to the museum by a train or car. Train station Savonlinna is located 200 meters from our hotel. Exit the train at station called Lusto. It only takes\u00a0 15-20 minutes to Lusto by train.<\/p>\n
